🎓 Key details of the “University of Twente Scholarship (UTS)”
It’s for excellent students from non-EU/EEA countries who are applying for a Master’s programme at UT.
Scholarship amount: €3,000 to €22,000 for one year. If the programme is two years, you may get the same amount for the second year as well (provided certain conditions).
You first need to secure admission (or conditional admission) to a qualifying Master’s programme at UT before you can apply for the scholarship.
✅ Eligibility & Requirements
Must be a non-EU/EEA student (so from outside Europe’s Economic Area).
Admission to a Master’s programme at UT (in the relevant fields) is required.
High academic excellence: typically in the top 5-10% of your class.
For two-year programmes: to continue the scholarship into year 2 you should meet certain performance criteria (e.g., a minimum grade average, sufficient ECTS credits) at the end of the first year.
English proficiency: UT requires e.g. IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) and for scholarship some additional sub-score criteria.
Deadlines & Application
Two rounds: e.g. for programmes starting in September 2026:
Round 1: application opens ~ 15 October 2025, closes 1 Feb 2026.
Round 2: opens ~ 1 Feb 2026, closes 1 May 2026.
Important: Apply for the Master’s programme first, get your admission letter or student number, then you apply for the scholarship.
⚠️ Important Notes / Things to keep in mind
The scholarship is not a full-tuition waiver: it’s meant to help with study‐related costs, living costs etc. You’ll still need to ensure you can cover any remaining costs.
If you get the scholarship for a 2-year programme, your continuation into year 2 depends on meeting performance criteria.
It is not available for EU/EEA students, or for students who already pay the lower (statutory) tuition fee for EU/EEA
Very competitive: Being in top 5-10% of your class is a big thing. One Redditor wrote
